American Federation for Musicians NOLA Local 174-496 is now accepting donations to assist our member musicians in this time of need. Donations will be placed in the Local's Altruist Fund which is strictly dedicated to providing assistance to local members who are injured, ill or displaced. MusiCares offers an Emergency Financial Assistance Program providing financial grants for music people in crisis. Tipitina's Foundation has dedicated itself to finding musicians housing, gigs and instruments while raising funds through donations and nationwide benefit concerts to meet the challenges facing us in the coming weeks and months. Music Maker Relief Foundation has begun this fund as a heartfelt response to aid the New Orleans musicians. Grants will be made for basic living expenses such as gasoline, food, rent, clothing and instrument replacement. This is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the true pioneers and forgotten heroes of Southern musical traditions gain recognition and meet their day to day needs. As per the site, you must be 55 years or older, rooted in the South and have an income of less than $18,000. Contributions go directly musicians.

New Orleans and Houston (NOAH) is a group of Musicians helping Musicians find housing and work in Texas. Most musicians in the stricken area left their homes in the wake of Hurricane Katrina with little or nothing. Finding work as a musician is never easy, but in a new community it can take months or years to become established enough to earn a living. Business Centers: Internet, Faxes, Phone lines for displaced Musicians of Katrina
In addition to visiting local schools, libraries, community centers, and churches, here are a few places to contact for business center help and to provide help:

Tipitina's Music Co-Op Business Center is a business center for musicians where they can go to use computers, faxes, and phone lines to book performances and develop their profession. The Co-Op is providing free membership to musicians displaced by the Hurricane, and they are also assisting these same musicians to book performances locally.

PublicWebStations is working to install business center to the huge numbers unable to return to their homes for weeks or even months. Free, readily-available public access to the Internet can provide a crucial lifeline both for the displaced and for the aid workers who have come to help them. Childcare for victims of Katrina

The Child Care Association of Louisiana has established the CCAL Katrina Fund to provide childcare for those in need! For information on childcare relief for Katrina victims, contact www.nccanet.org/. or call 1-800-488-2793.

The Association to Benefit Children (ABC) has been called upon by the New York Mayor's Office of Emergency Management to provide childcare for the victims of the Hurricane Katrina disaster. ABC will set up A Child's Space, a therapeutic play space, for children affected by Hurricane Katrina at the Disaster Assistance Service Center in Manhattan. Located at unpublished location on the west side above 125th Street, the center's hours of operation will be from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.
